Fight Breast Cancer: Early Detection is the Key

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

In a recent survey, more than 20% of patients who had chronic pain never mentioned it to their physicians, even if the discomfort was severe enough to interfere with daily activities and sleep. Doctors and patients need to get over what seems to be a “Don’t ask, don’t tell” mentality. So if your physician doesn’t bring it up, you should take the intiative — and the get the help you need.

You might be at risk for breast cancer if: You’re older than 50; a first-degree relative was diagnosed with the illness; you got pregnant with your first child at age 31 or above; you’ve never given birth; your first period occurred when you were nine or younger; you experienced late menopause at age 51 or above; you were exposed to ionizing radiation during childhood; or there’s post menopausal obesity, among others.

Starting age 20, you should perform a breast self-exam (BSE) on the seventh to the tenth day from the first day of your period. Women who have breast implants, are pregnant, or are breast-feeding should also perform a BSE. Menopausal women should ssign one day in a month for their BSE.

Work and Family

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

For two years after I married, my life revolved around two persons — my husband and my daughter. Being a housewife enabled me to devote my time to my family. Within these two years, I learned how to manage our budget and at the same time take care of the family.

Balancing work and home

I manage my time carefully — making sure no one and nothing is left out. Writing one’s plan gives a solid reminder of what to do. My family comes first, of course. Being a wife to one of the busiest persons is hard. All of what I am and need comes next to my husband, and I’m happy to take the backseat.

What I appreciate most in this situation is that I can work at home. Multitasking is one job I do best — baby-sitting and making business calls in the comfort of my house.

Saving up

Because I know that money doesn’t grow on trees, I try to save as much as I can and budget our expenses properly. My husband and I keep an emergency savings account that we deposit a portion of our income every month. It takes a lot of patience and discipline to be able to do this.

Looking for ways to save is always a smart thing. If you spend most of your time online, you’d be happy to know you can still buy stuff on the web and save a lot money! Savebuckets offers a variety of products at very low prices. Their website is user-friendly, so non-techie Internet user like myself can easily navigate around with no problems. Check out the site to do some price compare sometime!

Balancing work and family should be easy. Like I said, it only needs patience and discipline.

Anti-aging your relationship in 7 ways, 7 days

What’s the secret to a happy marriage? Romantic weekends help, but love isn’t something you postpone for “special occasions.” It’s what you do today — for yourself, for your husband, for the commitment you made to each other to “love, honor, cherish, and protect.”

And what many couples will tel you is that the changes aren’t that hard to make. We challenge you to make a few very simple steps in the next 7 days — steps that open your heart, change your attitudes, and create not just a romantic atmosphere, but a romantic perspective. It can make a world of difference in your marriage, and your life.

Monday: Romance begins in your heart

Worrying not only brings out your wrinkles, it wears down your spirit until you lose your ability to enjoy your marriage, and your life. Stop seeing life as a series of chores: rediscover the dream, and the romance of being alive.

You can start today. Write a letter to yourself, listing 30 things you want to do in the next 5 years (example, see Paris!). Remember your passion for life is one of the sexiest things in a woman. He’l love the twinkle in your eye and the joy in your voice. Plus, you’ll feel 10 years younger.

Tuesday: Don’t just say “I love you”, speak lovingly

Communication is the key to any happy marriage. If you can’t talk about your feelings without fighting, no amount of scented candles can make you intimate. For tips on how to resolve conflicts, read How to Speak Your Spouse’s Language: Ten Easy Steps to Great Communication by H. Norman Wright.

It’s possible to disagree without feeling threatened or putting each other down. And once you learn to sound supportive and understanding — even when you’re talking about everyday errands or your family budget — every conversation brings your closer together. (more…)

Tour Package to Puerto Princesa, Palawan

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

My first visit to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, a few years ago was uneventful, with nights spent daring to eat tamiloc — a live woodworm marinated in vinegar — with beer at one of the local haunts. I had no idea there were plenty other, more worthwhile things to do until a group of us flew there recently to experience The Legend Palawan’s PaX package tour, an in-house tour service that comes with your own van, yacht travel itinerary and knowledgeable guide.

If you already know, Palawan is a wide spread of a province that boasts many pristine islands — several of them private — located in the Northern part. With PaX, however, you don’t need to be marooned in an island resort during your whole stay; you can hit the beach during the day, go snorkeling, have your dream beach wedding, and then come back to enjoy the city’s night life and sleep in the comfort of a first-class hotel.

PaX allows a whole range of experiences. The activities are more flexible for different travelers with varied interests. They have the choice to explore the different interests at their own pace. The tour itineraries can cover a culinary adventure, nature-tripping, wildlife observation, arts and culture tours. As the last nature frontier in the country, Puerto Princesa uniquely offers the variety. This is a modern city in the midst of nature reserves.

The Legend Palawan has standard, premium and deluxe rooms as well as larger suites. The Family Suites allow six individuals to comfortably stay in their own double-deck beds and include a mini-kitchen among its amenities. These special multi-occupant rooms are innovations of the hotel and are attracting a new market of families and corporate groups.

The recent completion of the convention center located within the hotel provides a seating capacity of over 1,000 people. If you’re looking into having your wedding in this place, you can put your wedding bands right in the convention center. But this convention center development aims to attract the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) market to the city as well. The Legend Palawan aims to to contribute to the overall Puerto Princesa business climate. They are selling a travel experience, not just hotel rooms.

How To Put On False Eyelashes

Unfortunately, not all of us are genetically gifted with lush eyelashes. The good news is that now you can actually buy them and put them on without the help of professional makeup artists.

  1. Apply a thin line of eyelash adhesive to the lashband of the false eyelash. Allow it to set for a moment so that the glue can get a bit sticky before applying.
  2. Without touching the band, hold the hairs and begin to apply the lashes starting from the outer corner of the eye as close to the lash line as possible.
  3. Once the outside corner is sticking well, work inward, pressing the false lashes to the lash line until the entire band is affixed.
  4. Be careful not to squeeze eyes shut too tight until glue is perfectly dry.
