So you’re brave enough to do it yourself? Try this at home body waxing, then, but don’t say you weren’t warned.

Homemade Sugar Wax

Ingredients: 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup lemon (nimbu) juice

Cooking: Mix the sugar, water, and lemon juice in a saucepan, and heat it over a low flame. Keep stirring the mixture until all the sugar has melted and you have achieved a thick brown liquid mass. Let it cool slightly.

Application:

  1. Test the temperature before applying the wax to your skin. It should be hot but not scalding.
  2. Once the wax has the right temperature, apply it to your skin with a butter knife in the direction of hair growth.
  3. Place a clean piece of cotton strip on the wax an yank it against the direction of hair growth.
  4. Wipe the area clean with a cold cloth after you’ve finished waxing. If, while in the process of re-applying, you notice sugar particles in the wax, re-cook the wax until the sugar is completely melted.
  5. Apply ice to the waxed area to close and tighten pores. You may notice that you have tiny bumps on the skin immediately after waxing. This is a normal reaction, and the redness and bumps should disappear within an hour.
  6. Apply a moisturizer or soothing lotion.
