Breezy, easy tips to help you look like sunshine even on the gloomiest days.
- Get Happy Feet. Rainy season means tucking your flip-flops away and sporting those good ol’ trusty sneakers. But the long hours in sweaty sneaks can easily cause blisters and calluses. The best remedy? Geta pedicure at a trusty salon, minus the polish. Afterwards, give your feet a little treat with a mini-foot spa: Before bedtime, smother some petroleum jelly on your tootsies, then slip into socks. The warmth of the socks will allow your skin to absorb the petroleum jelly. When you wake up the next day, you’re graced with smooth, soft, happy feet!
- Try a pretty coiff. No one wants to be caught dead with stringy, wet hair. Our solution? Keep your hair tied neatly so you stay away from bad-hair days, especially during stormy weather. But just because the days are gray doesn’t mean your hair pieces can’t be bright. Play around with colorful headbands or flower-ties to make sure the sunshine follows you everywhere you go.
- Scrub your sorrows away. Exfoliate your skin in the shower using a loofah or a sponge glove. Use water at comfortable temperature — not too hot, not too cold. Suds up with a moisturizing body wash, and follow up with body oil to leave skin feeling super smooth.
- Go Bronzey. While baking under the sun is a big no-no, you can cop a sun-kissed glow with a little blush or bronzer. Choose peach and pink colors (over brown) to leave you looking rosy, not burnt. Brush blush ontothe apples of your cheeks and on the bridge of your nose for the most flattering effect.
- Flash those pearly white teeth. If all else fails… flash one big, bright smile! While the rainy season may bring with it major headaches like traffic jams, floods, leaky roofs, and dark skies, note that they’re all temporary. A cheerful attitude can bring joy and comfort to the people around you; and it can also brighten you up in an instant! So flash your 1000-watt smile to everyone, and let the sunshine in.
- Feed your skin. The humidity and change in weather can bring about all sorts of skin dilemmas: acne, rashes, you name it! The good news is, since you’re no longer spending your days under the harsh sun, you can treat your face to a healthy dose of alpha hydroxy acid and vitamin C at night. This jolt of vitamins and exfoliates get your skin glowing in the morning! Just don’t forget to apply sunscreen before heading out — an overcast day doesn’t mean harmful UV rays aren’t around.
- Feel beautiful inside out. When it’s gloomy outside, you may begin to feel a little dreary on the inside, too. Snap out of that slump with a little exercis. Allot 30 minutes each day for some physical activity. That’s enough to pump you with endorphins to make you smile the clouds away. Enroll yourself at a nearby gym; try aero, yoga, kickboxing — or whatever sporty activity suits you. Working up a healthy sweat will certainly boost your mood. And to top it all, you’ll be assured you look your best when swimsuit season comes around again.
