Reiki Healing Sessions

Reiki channels energy in and out of your body to reduce stress and induce relaxation.

Perhaps the best maintenance program you can be on is not a regular shiatsu massage or an appointment with your manicurist, but a by-appointment-only Reiki session. “It’s like a massage but there’s no squeezing or physical contact — it’s the perfect way to reduce stress, relax, and take out the negative energy,” he explains.

Reiki (pronounced like “rain”) was started in the late 1800s by a Japanese doctor named Mikao Usui, who believed that the universe is surrounded by positive energy. It is thus up to man to re-channel this energy into the living things (including animals and plants) that need it. What makes Park, 40, a particulary good choice for this treatment is his 20 years of practice in healing methods; prior to his three years doing Reiki, he was into chi gong (which espouses tapping into one’s “inner” instead of the world’s “outer” energy).

“Actually, Reiki practitioners don’t call themselves healers; we are just channels,” explains Park. How does it work? The practitioner places his or her hands upon the person to be healed, with the intent for healing to occur, and then the positive energy begins flowing. The session takes around an hour and a half. How do you know that it’s not bogus? “Some people feel heat or a tingling sensation,” says Park. “Other just fall asleep or see colors.”

Since practitioners are mere mediums, it is the Reiki energy that manages its own flow into the recipient. It knows where to go, and what to do once it gets there. This positive energy displaces the negative energy that causes sickness. And where does the negative energy go? “It goes into the earth,” says Park.

Regular Reiki sessions can increase energy, reduce pain, and produce deep relaxation and a general feeling of well-being. “It is a powerful, life-changing experience, and can be used as an adjunct to other treatments such as Western medicine.”
