Your Room, Your Style

Your Room, Your Style

Pick a theme.

Picking a theme doesn’t necessarily mean choosing a particular style like “Zen” or “Moroccan.” It can be as simple as picking a color scheme for your space. This would make it easier for you to decide on what to put in your room and what to get rid of.

Make the bed your focal point. Make the bed your focal point. Normally the biggest piece of furniture in your room, the bed certainly commands a lot of attention. So why not make it spotlight-worthy? Gayle’s covered hers with a colorful bedcover (a flea-market find from India) which she and her sisters restored. You can also try making a makeshift canopy by hanging rods above the head and foot of your bed, and draping a piece of fabric across them.
Space out. We often get caught up thinking about what should go on horizontal surfaces—such as the bed, the night table, or the dresser—without thinking about the vertical space. Look over your room and see if it’s possible to hang stuff from the ceiling. Try fabric lamps or even little glass containers filled with beads. Space out.
