Beauty Tricks That Totally Turn Him On

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

You know that when you pull out the beauty stops, your guy can’t help but notice that you look amazing. But did you know that some get-pretty moves can actually yield a passion payoff as well? “There are all sorts of primping rituals women enjoy that can also serve as love stokers,” says Carol Queen, PhD, author of Exhibitionism for the Shy. Try Cosmo’s seven hair, makeup, and skin moves—which all double as passion tools—and discover a slew of new ways to burn up the bed… tonight.

Beauty Move #1
Get Groomed (Down There)

Maybe you’re thinking of going totally bare down there. Or you’re considering ditching your landing strip and returning to a full-on triangle. Going against your usual grooming grain can give you a huge boost in the boudoir. Why? Switching from your usual style tells your guy that you’ll also mix things up in bed.

Each bikiniline look has its erotic advantages. “I have found that going Brazilian makes the area more sensitive, so it’s possible you may feel more sexual sensation,” says Queen. And because the clitoris may be more exposed, some women say it leads to a more intense orgasm, adds Sari Locker, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Amazing Sex.
Beauty Move #2
Try a Surprise Tattoo

Sneak a temporary tattoo—from a pretty butterfly to a kick-ass
spider—on your inner thigh, and “accidentally” flash him while crossing your legs. Then look out. “Many guys are visual when it comes to their arousal, so
sexy sights like a tattoo do it for them ,” says Laura Berman, PhD, coauthor of Secrets of the Sexually Satisfied Woman. Plus, the shock of stumbling
favorite panties. Find press-on upon a racy image on your skin causes his brain to pump out adrenaline, getting him even more excited.

Beauty Move #3
Put on a Minty Lip Gloss

Have you ever heard that popping a mint before a makeout session can cause him to quiver all over? Well, kissing, etc., after applying a minty lip gloss packs an equally explosive passion punch. According to experts, when you lock lips with a guy with a minty flavor in your mouth or on your tongue, he’s going to feel an icy, tingling sensation—and that’s a huge turn-on for him.

Beauty Move #4
Apply Self-Tanner Everywhere But…

If you want to knock his socks off, self-tan all over—but leave your nether regions in relief. “When skin is tanned everywhere but the bottom bikini area,
you give him a target for nooky,” says Locker.

Beauty Move #5
Find Your Special “Do Me” Perfume

You may love your citrus fragrance for day, but don’t count on the same scent whipping him into a frenzy later that night. Instead, find a sexy scent that you wear only when you want to get horizontal. “You can actually imprint a scent on a man,” says Locker. “If you wear it only when you’re feeling frisky, then anytime he smells it, he’ll get turned on and want to ravish you.” Why is a signature shag scent such an aphrodisiac? Scientists have found that the same area of the brain that processes scent (the limbic system) also rules
emotion and memory, so scents trigger potent memories and moods.

Does He Really Love You?

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

He may not have said those magical three words yet…or maybe he already has. Whether you’re on the brink of coupledom or already planning a walk to remember, you always wonder: behind the sweet smile and good looks, is he the real deal? We show you both sides of the equation

the little things
Is the devil in the details…or is he just the devil?

the real deal: It’s easy to remember the big, in-your-face stuff, like the date of your anniversary or your undying love for Tito, Vic, and Joey, but it’s the little things where he really shines. Knowing how you like your coffee, asking about your day, remembering your little brother’s birthday, hunting down a rare book you’ve been on the lookout for…the list can go on. Big events deserve their proper attention—but it’s going to be the little details that will define your life together.

the fake-out: Here are some painful words for you to hear the next time your guy forgets about your movie date: he’s taking you for granted. But let’s be kind. Let’s say that he suffers from mild amnesia, and give him another chance. But the next time he texts to say he’s running late, maybe it’s time you stop taking his excuses lying down. The only thing he ought to apologize for is his sorry excuse for true love

sweet surprise
Can he keep things fresh…or does your love smell like rotten cheese?

the real deal: The ability to surprise is the secret to long-lasting relationships. This is not just about gifts—this is about the secret and surprising ways he has to keep your heart a-melting. Lovely “awww” moments, secret kisses, unexpected treats or a sweet handwritten letter tucked under the wiper of your car show that he’s serious enough to make a real effort at showing his love for you.

the fake-out: Thinking of ways to surprise you is a sign that your guy is willing to sacrifice time, effort, and quite a few brain cells. A relationship that falls into routine is a warning sign; make up a surprise of your own to remind him of the way things were…and are supposed to be. If you two are just starting out, surprises may be the norm, but the only way to know if he’s a keeper is if he keeps it up.

Drink up!

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Are you thirsty? Then, drink up! Water is crucial to every bodily function, and it’s the most necessary element for survival, next to air. Our bodies are made up of 60 to 70 percent water. Plus, we can live without food for months—without water, we can only survive a few days.If you keep being dehydrated, you can impair every aspect of your body. Here’s Seventeen’s guide to why water is good for you:

  • According to a study, a glass of water cured hunger pangs of nearly 100 percent of the dieters investigated in the study.
  • If you have back pain or achy joints, simply drink 8 to 10 glasses of water—you’ll feel better.
  • Having trouble concentrating on that exam? Try to drink water—and keep away from junk food—when studying, days or weeks before your test. If you are dehydrated, your liver suffers from the toxins that accumulate there—which makes you feel tired and unable to concentrate. Water can get your system going again.
  • Keep your body clean inside and out. Water is needed by your body to flush out the preservatives, additives and other toxic stuff you take in your body.
  • Bags under the eyes and dark under eye areas are symptoms that you need water. The thin skin under the eyes gets bruised as fluid drain away.

How to Treat Bug bites

Friday, August 4th, 2006

AVOID THEM
Use repellent: Look for products containing DEET like the ubiquitous OFF Lotion. Reapply repellent every 6 hours.

Snack right: Sugar in foods you eat can make your skin smell sweet to bugs—try salty snacks instead.

TREAT THEM

Wash all bites: Use soap and cold water to narrow blood vessles so bug saliva can’t spread—it’ll limit the swelling and pain.

How to Eat Right

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Even if you exercise, there’s no way to look great if you make bad eating decisions. Here are the top three reasons girls overdo it with food. — By Nicci Micco, M.S.

1) Forgetting to eat
Why it’s bad: Going more than five hours without food (except when you’re sleeping) makes your body extremely hungry, and it temporarily loses its ability to feel full—so you’ll likely binge at your next meal.

2) Eating when upset
Why it’s bad: You’re eating because you feel “empty” and you want to make that feeling go away—not because you’re actually hungry and need food. Those unnecessary calories add up and cause weight gain.

3) Overeating with friends
Why it’s bad: When you’re having so much fun eating and chatting, you don’t always realize that you’re full—so you keep at it. If you eat more than your body needs, you’ll likely store those extra calories as fat.
